I know how cheesy and cliché the following quote is, but to be quite honest I don't think it's appreciated enough; you only live once. But perhaps it's the wording that's throwing you off. A better phrase would be: you only get one life. One. And it's made up of all the moments floating around you right this second.
I want to make sure you really understand me.
You only have this one life. Just this one.
Now let me ask you this; was today spectacular? Was it thrilling? Was it beautiful and filled with laughs and memories? Did it help you grow as a person, or did you learn something profound and meaningful? Did you spend today doing something you love?
Because if not; if today was boring and tedious and monotonous...then you need to rethink this. If today didn't make your heart sing, then I'm afraid to tell you that you're wasting your time.
I've been reminded recently that not everybody gets the length of a life they deserve. It's unfair and it's scary, but it's true. And it could be you. A long life wasn't promised when you were born. I think too many of us take that for granted. It's time we stopped.
What if you only had this year? What would you do differently? What if you only had this month? This week? It pains me to write this, but what if this morning was the last morning you would ever wake up?
Would you be satisfied with your last day?
The purpose of this blog is not to scare you, but hopefully to push you into action. We can't really do much about prolonging the day we die, but we can do something with the time we have here. So if the answers to most of these questions was no, then it's time to change. Take this as a wake up call. If you find yourself continually hating the time you spend at school, move. Bring it up with your parents and if your serious enough about it, it's easily done. If you're stuck in a job that's getting you nowhere, quit. Follow a different path. Work hard and get where you want to be. If you're stuck in a rut and everyday seems like a routine, shake things up. Join new clubs and make new friends; take a day off and travel somewhere local but new; get a pet; try a new sport; take a year off to see the world! Whatever you do don't give me that excuse: "I can't". Because this is your life! The only one you're getting! Stop wasting your time! You can literally do anything! The world is your oyster!
I would be disappointed in ever single one of you if by the end of your life, you didn't take every opportunity this world has to offer.
Whenever you feel like this isn't the way your life is meant to be, then close your eyes and scroll down this list. Point to one thing, open your eyes and do it. The only rule is, you're not allowed to do it again if you haven't completed the first one... Some of the things are more challenging than others but which ever you picked first, it was made for you.
Yours Sincerely x
